The Director General of Mineral and Coal at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, Ridwan Djamaluddin, confirmed that his party had received a personal letter from the deputy regent on April 28, 2021. “Currently, the Directorate General of Mineral and Coal is scheduling a meeting with the Sangihe Islands Regency to discuss mining activities at the Mas Sangihe Mine,” Ridwan said in a broadcast. press, Sunday (13/6).

Ridwan continued, regarding the request for cancellation of the permit for the Mas Sangihe Mine, there are several things that need to be considered, among others, the mining activity of the Mas Sangihe Mine is based on the Contract of Work signed by the Government and the Mas Sangihe Mine in 1997.

In addition, the North Sulawesi Provincial Government is also said to have issued an Environmental Permit for the Mas Sangihe Mine on September 15, 2020 where the Environmental Permit mentioned that the location to be used by the Mas Sangihe Mine to carry out mining activities is only 65.48 hectares (ha) of total area of ​​42,000 ha.

Meanwhile, based on data from the Directorate General of Mineral and Coal, MEMR, the total area of ​​the Mas Sangihe Mine with prospects for mining is 4,500 ha (less than 11% of the total area of ​​the Mas Sangihe Mining KK).”The government will evaluate the area of ​​the Mas Sangihe Mining KK, and based on this evaluation it can ask PT TMS to shrink the KK area that is not used/no prospect for mining activities,” Ridwan added.

Ridwan also ensured that the government will continue to carry out strict supervision in the field to ensure that mining activities at the Mas Sangihe Mine are carried out according to regulations so that they do not cause environmental damage and endanger the community.
