ESDM Ministry Says Energy Transition Do not Have to Eliminate Coal

Dirjen Minerba Kementerian ESDM Ridwan Djamaluddin

The Director General of Mineral and Coal (Minerba) of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, Ridwan Djamaluddin, revealed that the energy transition does not have to eliminate coal.

With technological innovation, emissions from coal can be reduced so that the Net Zero Emission (NZE) target in 2060 can still be achieved.

“Let’s think in another way. The key word is sustainable energy transition. Net Zero Emission in 2060 is a big scenario that we must formulate with extraordinary steps. The key is innovation,” Ridwan said in a press release, Tuesday ( 30/8/2022).

Ridwan said that the aspect of affordability was important in mastering technology. He hopes that the coal industry can support a sustainable energy transition.

“I suggest making the coal industry version of the NZE, so it’s not just reducing the use of other coals. There are other ways to get to the NZE with a more innovative approach,” Ridwan explained.

On the same occasion, PTBA President Director Arsal Ismail said, as an energy company that cares about the environment, PT Bukit Asam Tbk (PTBA) is strengthening its existence and transforming into an energy company.
