Bukit Asam (PTBA) & KAI Build a Coal Unloading Terminal with a Capacity of 20 Million Tons

PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) or KAI in collaboration with PT Bukit Asam Tbk ( PTBA ) built the Kramasan coal unloading terminal to maintain and increase the logistics capacity of coal supply in Kertapati District, South Sumatra.

PTBA Corporate Secretary, Apollonius Andwie said, in this collaboration, PTBA took a role in supplying coal from mines and their supporting facilities. Meanwhile, KAI through its subsidiary, PT KALOG, provides a coal unloading terminal along with a port and other supporting facilities.

“Hopefully this synergy will be a good opportunity for all parties to develop their business and increase their contribution and strengthen the role of State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN) as economic drivers in Indonesia,” Andwie told Kontan.co.id, Monday (17/7).

Andwie did not mention how much investment must be spent to build the Kramasan coal unloading terminal. He said the development of the Tanjung Enim – Keramasan coal transport with a capacity of 20 million tons per year supports PTBA’s efforts to increase production and accelerate the monetization of coal reserves.

The Kramasan coal unloading terminal will be built on an area of 19.1 hectares with various modern infrastructures to be installed at the terminal, such as the integrated rail method supported by the train unloading system bottom dump and open side dump infrastructure (bottom and side opening mechanisms).

In terms of unloading capacity, the unloading terminal for Kramasan coal is as much as 60 thousand tons per day, with a maximum stockpile area with a capacity of 590 thousand tons. The Kramasan coal unloading terminal is also able to serve 20 trains with a series of 60 coal cars every day.

The Kramasan coal unloading terminal was built as a BUMN synergy between KAI, PT Bukit Asam, and PT PLN in realizing the 100 thousand megawatt (MG) program in 2025. In addition, the terminal is also part of KAI’s program towards 105 million tons of coal transportation in 2027.

In terms of profitability, the Kramasan coal unloading terminal is projected to contribute around IDR 80 billion-IDR 150 billion per year.
