Australian Ambassador for Indonesia Penny Williams visited Batam to attend the inauguration of the Thiess Truck Rebuilding Center in the Riau Islands recently.
According to Ambassador Williams, the Rebuild Center will support local manufacturing capabilities in Batam and a strong regional supply chain.
“The Thiess Batam Truck Rebuild Center is an excellent example of deepening investment and building capacity between Australia and Indonesia in a way that benefits the local community,” Ambassador Williams said in a press statement on Wednesday (31/1/2024).
“The facility is a testament to the long-term and strategic commitment Thiess has made in Indonesia for more than 40 years. They continue to build manufacturing capabilities and skills through training the local workforce to maintain and repair advanced equipment,” she continued.
During her time in Batam, Ambassador Williams also visited the Nongsa Digital Park which partners with the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT) to deliver cybersecurity training in Batam and Austin Engineering mining equipment site in Batam.
“The Indonesian and Australian governments are working together to open up trade and investment opportunities. I am very pleased to be in Batam to support these efforts,” Ambassador Williams said.
